Meet Tahia Legeay

Bonjour! I am Tahia Legeay, the exchange student from southern France. My family and I live in a small village near Montpellier, only twenty minutes from the Mediterranean Sea. My dad works in security. He goes to different places to check that everything is in order and that people are safe. My mother works in medical research for Sanofi, a very well-known company in France and the United States that analyzes diseases, helps develop cancer treatments and participates in the creation of vaccines, such as COVID-19. My older brother, who is 21 years old, is at university and also works in mechanics. He has already worked for EDF Energy, one of the largest energy suppliers in France.
Since I was a child, I have had the chance to travel to Canada, England (London), Spain, Italy (Venice), Corsica, Paris, and several islands such as Mallorca, Menorca and Sardinia. My family loves winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding, but also enjoys summer activities: hiking, surfing, running. Playing board games and cards, Monopoly and Skyjo, are some of our family favorites as well. A few things I am missing from home are the good French dishes, especially bread and charcuterie, and my friends and family.
In France, life at school is very different. Our days start at 8:00 a.m. and end at 6:00 p.m. We have a long break to eat, but no school sports like basketball, cheer or soccer. I participated in high-level dance and badminton outside of school. Here, I really like the fact that you can choose your subjects, and I am delighted to be able to take an anatomy course, because it corresponds to the job I want to do later. In France, anatomy is only studied at university.
I wanted to become an exchange student in the U.S. so I can discover a new culture, improve my English and live in a country where I could experience growth. Before arriving in Kalida, I spent three days in New York with other exchange students from all over the world - France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Turkey, Russia.
Since my arrival here, I have had very beautiful encounters: my host family, my host little sister, Lillie, and friends I met at school. Everything is different, and I like this difference. I really appreciated the welcome of the people here, their openness and their kindness. I was surprised by some habits, such as the size of portions in restaurants, the importance of sports at school, and the fact that students have a lot of freedom in choosing their classes.
All this is very different from what I know in France, but I love discovering these new ways of life. While in the U.S. I would like to visit Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami. I have dreamed of visiting these three cities for a long time. I'm really happy to be here in Kalida. This experience makes me grow, pushes me out of my comfort zone, and teaches me a lot about myself and others. I already know that I will keep these memories all my life.

As an ambassador of CIEE, if you want to do a year of exchange in another country, ask me questions. There are opportunities to be an exchange student for a few weeks or 6 months or 1 year.

Below are pictures of my family and friends from France.

Registration for course scheduling for students entering grades 10-12 next year will take place on Thursday, February 6 during the school day. College Credit Plus Parent Meeting

On Tuesday, February 10 at 6:00 p.m. there will be a meeting in the high school community room for the parents of high school students who may be interested in taking college level courses during next school year. There are two main options at Kalida High School for students to take college level courses. One option is that students can take a few at Kalida High School. These courses are either taught by a college instructor or members of our KHS staff who have been approved by James A. Rhodes State College to teach respective courses.
The following courses at Kalida High School are high school courses which can be taken for college credit through Rhodes State College: Psychology, Computer Applications, Personal Finance, Introduction to Engineering, Digital Electronics, and Computer Aided Drafting. It is important for parents of students planning to take any of these courses for college credit to attend the meeting on February 10. If parents have attended this session in a previous year, there is no need to attend again.
The other main method by which high school students can take college level courses is for them to take them on a college campus or online during the summer or school calendar year. A representative from James A. Rhodes State College and other local colleges will be present to explain the options of the College Credit Plus program and answer questions. Parents who attended this meeting in the past do not have to attend again, but certainly can for a refresher.
